On September 5, the second meeting of the 1st Hengqin Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone advisory committee was held in Hengqin. 25 advisory members attended the meeting, including Edmund Ho Hau Wah, Vice-Chairman of CPPCC National Committee; Youli MA, Permanent President of Macao Chinese Chamber of Commerce and member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee of the 13th session of the CPPCC National Committee; Yiming WANG, Former Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council and Vice Chairperson of China Center for International Economic Exchanges (CCIEE); Baige ZHAO, Vice Chairperson of Foreign Affairs Committee of 12th Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin and Chairman of the RDI International Think Tank Expert Committee; and Yunxian CHEN, Former Vice Governor of Guangdong Province. Chairman Zhao Baige, former vice-governor of Guangdong Province Chen Yunxian and other 25 advisory members attended the meeting and actively offered advice and suggestions for Hengqin.

At the meeting, Weinong LI, Director of the Executive Committee, delivered a welcome speech, thanking all the advisory members for their continuous concern, support and guidance for the development and construction of Hengqin Cooperation Zone. He said that Hengqin Cooperation Zone is a special area with a national mission, and President Xi Jinping and the Central Government attach great importance to the development and opening up of Hengqin. Xinping NIE, Director of Hengqin Office of Guangdong Province and Deputy Director of the Executive Committee, introduced the development and construction of Hengqin Cooperation Zone, and reported on the handling and implementation of 67 opinions and suggestions in three categories made by the members at the first meeting. Participating advisory members expressed constructive advice on key issues such as industrial development, talent gathering, reform and opening up, business environment, convergence of rules and regulations, and innovation in the rule of law in the Hengqin Cooperation Zone.

Edmund Ho Hau-wah pointed out that Hengqin Cooperation Zone should promote the integration of Qin and Macao in four aspects to take greater steps and achieve greater results.

RDI leverages the power of new think tanks

As a member of the inaugural Qin-Guangdong-Macao Deep Cooperation Zone Advisory Committee, Baige ZHAO, Vice Chair of Foreign Affairs Committee of 12th National People's Congress and Chair of Advisory Committee of Research and Development International (RDI) Congress, attended two consecutive meetings of the Zone Advisory Committee.

At this meeting, Director Baige ZHAO's speech pointed out that the Cooperation Zone has made remarkable progress in deep integration and persisted in moving forward despite the challenges it faces. The establishment of the Advisory Committee is of great positive significance to the development of the Zone, and in order to better fulfill the role of the Advisory Committee, a daily working mechanism should be set up and a new generation should be accommodated.

According to Baige ZHAO, the Zone's move to incorporate the major health industry into its development strategy is highly visionary. Its correctness is reflected in the fact that the Zone has the advantages of globalization layout, the convergence effect of the high-end clientele adjacent to Macao, and the presence of famous medical institutions such as Concordia, which provides a good foundation for the development of the industry.

In view of the future development, Baige ZHAO put forward the following suggestions: firstly, the development of Chinese medicine industry should be benchmarked against Japan and South Korea, and the development and internationalization of Chinese medicine should be promoted; secondly, focusing on the frontier field of stem cell therapy, the advantage of early and pilot implementation should be brought into full play, especially in the formulation of quality standards and relevant approvals; thirdly, a perfect management system of Chinese medicine research and development, production, quality and sales should be set up; and fourthly, cultivation and research of raw materials of Chinese medicine should be carried out.
