Jiahua PAN is the Chief Expert of the National 973 Programs. His main research areas include: economics of sustainable development, sustainable urbanization, economics of land and resource, world economy, etc.
He served as Deputy Director of the Yangtze Economic Research Institute of the Hubei Academy of Social Sciences, Senior Project Officer and Energy and Development Consultant of the UNDP Beijing Office, Senior Economist of the Socio-economic Evaluation Working Group (Netherlands) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and Editor-in-Chief of Urban and Environmental Studies. He served as the co-editor and main author of the Third Report (1997-2001) of the Climate Change Mitigation Assessment Report of the Third Working Group of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) (Cambridge University Press) and the main author of the Fourth Report (2003-2007) and the Fifth Report (2010-2014). He has published more than 300 Chinese and English papers and works (translations) in domestic and foreign journals such as Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal, Science (2008, 10), Nature (2009, 10) and Oxford of Review Economic Policy (2009, 10). He won the "First Prize and the Second Prize of Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement of CASS", and "Sun Yefang Award of Economic Sciences" (2011). He was "China Green Person of the Year 2010/2011".
