Zhuangzhi SUN is currently Director and Researcher of Institute of Russian, Eastern European & Central Asian Studies, CASS and Secretary General of China Center for Shanghai Cooperation Organization of CASS, and he is also Member of the SCO China Committee on Neighborhood, Friendship and Cooperation, Executive Director of the Asia-Africa Association of China, Executive Director of China Center for Contemporary World Studies of the International Department of the CCCPC. He is a Professor, PhD Supervisor of CASS .

He graduated from the Graduate School of CASS in 2000, specializing in international politics. His research interests include the international relations of the Central Asia Region and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. His works includeForeign Relations of Five Central Asian Countries (1999), New Pattern and Regional Security of Central Asia (2001), Central Asian Security and Afghanistan Issues (2003), The "Color Revolution" in the States of CIS (2011), and his papers include "The New Development of SCO and  New Opportunities for China's Foreign Economic Cooperation" (2012), "The New Situation in Central Asia and the SCO Strategic Positioning" (2011), and "Shanghai Cooperation Organization: An Important Platform for Cooperation between China and Central Asia" (2011).
