WANG is Professor and PhD Supervisor with a PhD. He was Member of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC. He is the incumbent Chair of the Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC. He used to serve as President of the University of CASS.

In 1992, he was approved to enjoy the special government allowance of the State Council. He was recognized as Professor and PhD Supervisor respectively in 1993 and 1996. He used to served as Council Member of, Director of the Academic Affairs Department and Vice President of Party School Of the Central Committee of CPC, Deputy Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group, Vice President and Chairman of the Presidium of the Academic Divisions of CASS. From 2013 to 2018, he served as President and Secretary of the Leading Party Members’ Group of CASS. From 2017 to 2018 , he served as President of the University of CASS. Since March 2018, WANG has served as Chair of the Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the 13th National Committee of the CPPCC.

His main research fields are Marxist philosophy and Marxism, the Sinicization of Marxism, the CPC's theoretical innovation, and major theories and practices of socialism with Chinese characteristics. He published more than 30 academic monographs, including Social Contradiction Theory, The Theory of Interests, Basic Issues of the Scientific Outlook on Development, Basic Issues of the Theory of  Harmonious Socialist Society, Weiguang WANG’s Academic Works Collection, Weiguang WANG’s Essay Collection, Research on Party School Work Patterns, Weiguang WANG’s Lecture Collection, and Chinese Path and the Sinicization of Marxism. He was also Editor-in-chief of many books, including Basic Issues of Marxism, Introduction to the Important Thought of “Three Represents”, Research on the Important Thought of “Three Represents”, Introduction to the Scientific Outlook On Development, Theory and Practice of Building a New Socialist Countryside, and General History of Socialism (Eight volumes). He also published more than 400 papers in national newspapers and journals.
