Having been admitted to Tongji Medical College of HUST in 1977, she completed 8 years of medical education for Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in China, then finished PhD and postdoctoral work in Australia and the U.S. respectively. She obtained the Doctoral Degree in Medicine in Monash University, Australia in 1993 and later conducted postdoctoral studies at Sloan Kettering Cancer Research Center in New York, U.S., with her main research area in cytopathology. In 2000, SUN established Wuhan Landing Medical High-Tech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred as "Landing") and started to serve as its Chairman.

After more than 10 years of persistent efforts of Wuhan Landing's team under the leadership of SUN, the company's technologies and products have been certified by China CFDA, U.S. FDA and EU CE respectively. The team has also cooperated with Alibaba in establishing a cloud platform for cervical cancer screening and diagnosis. It took the lead to complete the third-party clinical examination service of cytopathology via the cloud platform, providing high-quality and low-cost screening services for large-scale cervical cancer screening at home and abroad. Additionally, it has achieved world-leading results and become a pioneer in pathological diagnosis of cancer cell using AI and big data cloud computing platform.

Landing has been included in "2019 New Information Consumption Demonstration Project" list of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the P.R.C., awarded "Hubei Engineering Technology Research Center" by Science and Technology Department of Hubei Province, won "Science and Technology Contribution Award" by the National Bio-industry Base, and "Hidden Champion" by Department of Economy and Information Technology of Hubei Province (formerly Commission of Economy and Information Technology of Hubei Province).

SUN won "Foreign Experts Friendship Award" from the Chinese Government and the title of "The Bearer of Red Flag March 8" by the Chinese Government in 2011. She has won "Technological Innovation Talent Award", "Hubei Science Progress Award" and "Wuhan Yellow Crane Friendship Award" of Wuhan, and been included into the first batch of "100 Talent Plan" of Hubei Province and "3551 Talent Plan" of Wuhan East Lake High-tech Development Zone.
