On June 23, 2020 local time, the new book The Room Where it Happened by John Bolton, former national security adviser of the United States was officially published. This book records Bolton's experience as Trump's national security adviser for 17 months. It has attracted much attention from American Political circle because of the disclosure of a large number of insider information such as Trump's diplomatic and political decisions. Among them, many large-scale revelations about senior US officials have detonated the US political arena. Previously, the White House resorted to court to prevent the publication of the book on the grounds of divulging internal information. But in the end, the White House failed to stop the publication of the book that "Trump last wanted to see".

There are 15 chapters in the book. Each chapter focuses on a major event, such as withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement, US DPRK leaders' meeting, withdrawal from Syria and Afghanistan, etc. and its content involves Trump's policies towards China, Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, Iran and the United Kingdom. In Chapter ten, Bolton focuses on the insider of Trump's China policy, mainly involving current political hot spots such as China US economic and trade negotiations, Huawei issue, Taiwan issue, Hong Kong issue and epidemic prevention and control. As far as China-U.S. relations are concerned, Trump's personality of businessman actually prevents the possibility of Washington hawks taking further action against China. Because of the delay in the outcome of the trade negotiations, the Trump administration is afraid of "affecting the trade negotiations" and is unwilling to promote other issues aimed at China.

Born in 1948, Bolton once served in the three administrations of Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush. He is a famous "Hawk" in American politics and is famous for his tough foreign policy stance. After taking office in April 2018, he has shown a tough stance on issues such as the Iranian nuclear issue, the Afghan nuclear issue and the DPRK nuclear issue. In this book, Bolton exposed a lot of inside information about the White House and Trump. There were also many things that were little known to former and current US officials, but he paid the most attention to the account of Trump. Bolton's explosive accusations against Trump's foreign policy once made him very angry. For Trump, this book is powerful and can be described as a "stumbling block" in the presidential re-election campaign. The U.S. intelligence community reacted equally strongly to the book, believing that the confidential information Bolton contacted might be leaked through the book and would cause losses to the U.S. signal intelligence collection. Although Bolton's writings are all his side of the stories, with strong personal emotions and a lot of subjective assumptions, this book can be regarded as an important reference for understanding Trump's governance methods, foreign policy strategies and other insider information.
