Belt and Road Hong Kong Center (hereinafter referred to as “the Center”) is a non-government and a non-profit making organization registered in the Hong Kong S.A.R. in accordance with local law and all its funding comes from donation. Chairman of the board is Mr. Leung Chun-Ying, former Chief Executive of Hong Kong S.A.R. and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the CPPCC, and members of the Board of Directors include Cheung Chi-Kong, Sophia KAO, Lau Ming-Wai, Lau Ping-Cheung and Raymond TANG. The Center’s mission is to leverage the strengths of Hong Kong as a vital node to foster Chinese-foreign cooperation. Its belief is that While t BRI paves more opportunities for Chinese enterprises to invest abroad under the framework of the BRI, playing their role as good corporate citizens in destination countries is indispensable to mutually benefit local people and share the fruits of the initiative.

The major work of the center is to conceive, spearhead and formulate projects by mobilizing and leveraging resources optimally at home and abroad, collaborating with other institutions or individuals to deliver the best result. Topping its work agenda in the first phase is strengthening People-to-People Bond, one of the Five Connect Schemes under the B&R. This includes enhancing the understanding of the B&R international cooperation initiative among Hong Kong youth, promoting local experience, lending humanity aids to developing countries, promoting art and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries as well as publicizing overseas the essence of cooperation and shared benefits of the B&R.

The Center’s research team is led by senior scholars on relevant topics, dedicated to collecting and analyzing information and policies of the B&R countries, conducting research and writing reports on relevant issues, so as to help enterprises and institutions better grasp the opportunities of the BRI presents. The Center is committed to achieving people-to-people bonds on humanitarian work, youth exchange and education, and cultural and artistic exchanges, with the ultimate goal to promote the idea that the BRI aims to mutually benefit local people. The crucial projects the Center promoted include the B&R Cataract Blindness Eradication Campaign (Cambodia), Hong Kong Youth New Runway Program, BRI Principal Tour, and the Fourth Aviation Silk Road International Conference.

RDI attaches great importance to the cooperation with the Center, and both of them are committed to promoting the BRI. On April 2nd, 2019, RDI and the Center jointly organized the Fourth Aviation Silk Road International Conference.

In the future, RDI will keep strengthening its cooperation with the Center in the following areas: enhancing the understanding of the B&R international cooperation initiative among Hong Kong youth, promoting local experience; and lending humanity aids to developing countries, promoting art and cultural exchange between China and foreign countries as well as publicizing overseas the essence of cooperation and shared benefits of the B&R.
